Flash flooding in Coverack

Coverack was affected by flash flooding a month or so ago, following an estimated 100mm of rainfall in just a few hours. This was a slightly different event to that in Boscastle in 2004 (which remains the key case study for many) but both were caused by an intense precipitation event, which produced very large amounts of precipitation over a localised area. This led to flooding of properties and damage to a road, which gained quite a bit of media coverage. The local news programme suggested that some people had put off their visits due to the flooding, so important to say that Coverack is very much open for business....

I created a map using Digimap for Schools (if your school doesn't have an account then you should get one organised)
KES pupils have access to this tool to create their own maps. The login and password is displayed in all Geography classrooms.
One thing to do would be to make your own maps of the locations of any UK-based case studies, with some additional notes using the text box option...

Here is a good starter image, which was taken from a BBC News article the day after, and also some short video clips, which are worth using with students... A reminder that the flood 'took everything' from some people (including the kitchen sink)
