Degg's Model

Martin Degg is a lecturer who created this model. It was used in the British Red Cross resource which was mentioned earlier in the blog, and is useful way of thinking about natural hazards as a situation where there is an overlap of the two circles. The other useful model is Park's model. See if you can find a copy of this one in a textbook that you might be using. Both of the models explores the overlap between the cause of the hazard, and the factors that help it to become one, and those that help to reduce the risks involved. New from the ONS - Navigating Numbers

New from the Office for National Statistics is Navigating Numbers. “Navigating numbers: how data are used to create statistics” includes a series of five classroom toolkits. Each toolkit is centred around an ONS tool or dataset that relates to a part of everyday life. These toolkits are free for teachers to reuse, subject to the Open Government Licence . Any use should include a reference to the ONS as the source of the information in the resources. Created with the support of the Association of Colleges (AoC), these toolkits will help students understand how and why we use the public’s data to produce statistics. Along with a look at the Gender Pay Gap and Inflation data there is a Census toolkit for students and teachers which is excellent. There's also a Health and Well-being toolkit.
